DIY Hot Pot Mats

Hot Pot mats are one of those things we think of at the time when we need it. We normally come-up with a solution on the fly and then forget to get organised for the next time we need something.

Well that is life, but there are some really quick and easy fun pot mats to make and are great craft ideas for the kids to help with too.

What you’ll need

  • pom pom’s in any colour and size that you like

Just remember if your using small ones you may need a few depending on the size of the mat you are making

I brought mine from the craft shop (here), but if your looking to make a big mat then it may be better to make your own pom pom’s so you can get the size you need.

  • Hot glue gun
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Mat, this is to tie the pom pom’s too if you’re making your own.

DIY Hot Pot Mat

I like to thread my pom pom’s balls together with a needle and thread just to keep them in place as I glue them together. It adds a extra strength so it doesn’t come apart.

Then using a hot glue gun using small amounts in between the balls and join together. Don’t use to much glue as it will go everywhere and it’s not necessary.

There are two different ways you can do these:

Wind them in a circle making round mats.

Lining them up in rows to make a square or rectangle. This makes it great so you have a variety of sizes to suite different pots and pans that you may be using.

Allow to dry completely and there you have some great hot pot mats that are just want you need in your kitchen and in your style too.

Simple mats to place hot pots on using Pom Pom's

So, how about that mat and the larger balls. This is super fun and great craft activity for the kids to do and they can pick their own colours and make their own mat for their bedroom or even bathroom.

Start by making the pom pom’s, and you’ll need a mat with holes you can pick these up from the craft stores as well (here)

Once you are happy with your pom poms and the amount, now you can pull it together for the mat.

Use the long piece of yarn you have tied the pom pom together with and poke this through the holes in the mat and tie off to secure it in place.

And just keep going until the mat is full and fluffy and you have a great mat for the kids room.

Hope you enjoy making these as much as I did, and don’t forget to share your designs with us either in the comments or on our a social’s.
